Char-Broil 08401504 Grill2Go ICE Portable Gas Grill Review
This is not the perfect grill and most of their marketing is bunk. However, it really is a solid contender for tailgating. Let me tell you why.
First, the bunk: the "infrared heat" and "more efficient use of gas" are not very accurate. You have a 10k BTU burner, surrounded by mirrors to reflect the heat to the bottom of what looks like a giant drip pan. The marketing seems to ride on the infrared bandwagon, suggesting searing heat in seconds (and thus the efficient use of gas) and the elimination of grease altogether. However, 10k BTU is just that and it will never be more than that - this is physics, not magic. Put some stuff in the way and it takes a long while to heat up the grill - and it never gets -very- hot and grease is not magically evaporated. You are not going to cook with cast iron on this and you are not going to be doing your Bobby Flay impression with 3-inch thick ribeye steaks.
That said, the grill does a bang up job with burgers and hot dogs - that is, tailgating food (at least for us). Plus, because of all the mirrors and giant drip plate (above the burner) the burner is not exposed to grease and other drippings. So, your burner stays cleaner and efficient than other grills. Before this grill, we used a Weber Baby Q, and the clogging in the burner was unavoidable and terribly frustrating over time - I don't think we'll have that problem with this grill.
Build quality is decent - the metal feels thinnish - but sturdies up when you have it all assembled. The wheels are not "all terrain" but do fine for tailgating for the most part. The coolers are handy - without the grill or with it. I wish there was a place to store the side shelves (we leave them behind) and that the roller handle locked in some way (if you push on it - as one often does in maneuvering - it collapses). We've taken it to Opening Day for baseball and a few other events. Now it resides at my office, where we can wheel it out as needed if we are working late. Of particular note, the Rangers were in first place when we inaugurated this grill and remain in first place as of this writing. So, apparently it comes with a lucky streak for no extra charge.
